1.Two organisations - Trees,Water and People (TWP) and Nuru Design, which brought change in the lives of thousands of school children, housewives and villagers across Latin America,Africa and India have been conferred SASAKAWA PRIZE ($200,000) an award given by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
TWP (Stuart Conway is the co-founder and International Director) collaborates with local NGOs in distributing fuel-efficient cook stoves to communities in Honduras, Guatemala,El Salvador, Nicaragua and Haiti.
Nuru Design ()brought rechargeable lights to villages in Rwanda,Kenya and India
2.The Department of Posts released a commemorative stamp in honour of PC SORCAR (Senior) who 'took the magic of India to the rest of the world'.

4.Sanjoy Hazarika eminent journalist has been awarded Dr. Jean Mayer Award for Global Citizenship by the US-based Tufts University for his contributions to North East India, initiatives in health and governance, besides advocacy of issues.
